UX Design
What is UX Design?
The abbreviation UX stands for “user experience”—simply put, what we experience when using a product. At its core is a simple question: How do people experience a product, an app, a website, or a service—from their first impression to their final goal?
This involves much more than mere aesthetics. What’s far more important is that a product or service is understandable, meaningful, pleasant, and efficient. Can users find their way around right away? Is the next click logical? Does the application feel secure and cohesive? It is precisely this interface between people and products that UX design shapes.
By the way, the user experience doesn’t begin only once the website or app is finished. It starts with the very first idea and extends to content, workflows, load times, error messages, and a multitude of small details in the background.
What does UX design involve?
UX design combines strategic thinking, psychology, and creativity. It always starts with the people for whom the product is being built. As part of user research, we take a close look at what this target group needs, expects, and how it behaves—for example, through interviews, surveys, or data analysis.
The actual design process builds on this foundation:
Sketches and wireframes: Initial blueprints that show the basic structure and user flows.
Information architecture: Content and features are organized so that everyone can navigate the interface intuitively.
Prototypes and Testing: Before investing in expensive development, test early versions with real users. This helps identify stumbling blocks and unnecessary detours early on.
UX as Part of the Brand Experience
Every click contributes to a brand’s image. A website that takes forever to load or a confusing checkout process creates frustration. When everything runs smoothly, however, trust is built.
When considering UX and brand identity together, the term “Brand UX” is often used. Brand values shouldn’t just look good here—they should be tangible in everyday life. This also means that all touchpoints—whether a website, newsletter, or support chatbot—should feel like they’re part of a cohesive whole: in their language, pace, and the way they respond to issues.
UX vs. UI: What's the Difference?
The terms UX and UI are often mentioned in the same breath, but they refer to different things:
UX design focuses on functionality, logic, structure, and the overall experience.
UI (User Interface)design shapes the visible interface—that is, colors, typography, icons, buttons, and spacing.
Without good UX, even the most beautiful interface is useless, because the product can still be cumbersome to use. And even the most logical app needs a clean UI to make users want to use it intuitively in the first place. So both disciplines go hand in hand.
